As the first phase of ICTAS (Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science), the New Engineering Building (also known as ICTAS I), was designed to be used exclusively for research as part of the university’s effort to establish itself as one of the top research universities in the United States.  Designed by internationally renowned Pei Cobb Freed Partners, LLP with Burt Hill as Project Architect, the structure is clad in traditional Hokie stone and curtainwall.
