The new Blacksburg Middle School is a two-story 190,425 square foot school that serves 1,200 students. Construction started in March of 2001, on a site that had been previously graded in order to allow the work to begin promptly. The school has over 72 classrooms, a library, two computer labs, three art labs, a computer art lab, a kitchen, lab, and 2 gymnasiums with locker rooms. It also boasts a state-of-the-art media center and a dual-purpose cafeteria/auditorium. The two-story media center features floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful valley and serves as the focal point of the building. The dual-purpose cafeteria/auditorium includes a full-size stage, band/choir rooms, and electrically operated walls that extend down from the ceiling to create a 300-seat theater. In addition to the state-of-the art facilities, there is a greenhouse, wood shop, a Tech-Ed & Ag-Ed shop.
